If you have the money, I suggest investing in Pay-Per-Click Advertising via websites like Google Adwords, join or create your own Affiliate Programs, or advertise in websites or blogs specific to your niche / relevant to your target audience.

Search Engine Optimization to me is all about making sure your site is easy for search engines to detect. Getting the first page of a google search is ideal but you at least want to be in the top 3. Here are some common, but very effective SEO Tips:

  1. Submit Your Website to the Top Directories: Google | Yahoo! | DMoz
    Request a Google Robot Visit Your Website
    Get a Google Sitemap Account

  2. Be sure to add your Title Tag with you Keywords that best describe your business

  3. Include your keywords and be sure to use the right keywords: terms that your potential customers are searching for

  4. Always add your website url as a signature to your emails and when you post on forums

  5. Submit your website to niche specific directories or newsgroups. You site might not be popular, but it helps to at least have a link on sites that are. Link Exchanges are a good idea too.

Making Sales Online is a big challenge, especially if your online visibility is low. Now if that is the case for you, you might have to start aggressively searching for sales. In other words, making more effort to seek out people who might be potential customers because if they can’t find you then you have to make go out and find them.

When I just started building my business online the first thing I did was try to find business. I went to classified sites, directories, and forums where people were looking for my services. I found several of my firsts clients just by browsing craigslists and making local connections.

One way to market yourself and build a customer base online is to go where your customers are. If you can answer their questions and meet their needs, you can build your business.

Banner Advertising is one of the most common and effective marketing strategies on the net. It is for that reason that I decided to create a space for members of Black Business Women Online to participate in Banner Exchanges. I also wanted to take a moment to discuss various ways to promote your website and showcase your banner.

  • Add your Banner to your email and/or forum signature. Your signature is basically a promotional tagline that you can add to the end of your emails, articles, forum posts, etc. You can add your banner or website link to your signature, but keep this in mind: If you add your banner you might want to add a small one so that your signature links clean and professional rather than loud or SPAM-like.

  • It’s always a good idea to have one of the following pages on your site: a link to us page, links page, or tell-a-friend page. These are great pages to add your banner and encourage your viewers to either host your banner or share your link with friends.

  • If you would like to create your own space to exchange banners with people who have similar sites, consider creating your own Top 100 Site Ranking System where you can advertise your banners for free, create a space on which similar sites can add their banners, and if your niche is popular enough your banner submitters can host your Top100 Banner on their sites for even more site promotion.
